Lake County Arrest Records and Warrant Search
Why would you be interested in performing a Lake County warrant search? There are two main answers for this question. First and foremost, under Florida Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), based on the Sunshine Law (Florida Statutes, section 119) from 1995, the public has the right to access governmental public records including criminal records. Second, since the information is available you might want to use it to inquire whether a person has a criminal history. This person can be your children’s nanny, someone you are dating or one of your employees.
Three major types of warrants
Lake counties arrest warrants are divided into three main types:
- An active arrest warrant – an arrest order signed by a judged that authorizes the police to arrest a person suspected of crime.
- An outstanding warrant – an arrest warrant that has not been served since the police have not succeeded in locating and apprehending the suspect. For practical purposes, a Lake county outstanding warrant can lead to your arrest anytime and anywhere in Florida, so having this kind of warrant on your name means that you are not off the hook. According to official estimations, there are more than 350,000 FL outstanding warrants.
- A bench warrant – an arrest order issued against a person for failing to appear in (either criminal or civil) court.
